Our new favorite tea to sip: Quarantea. Although it’s not full of hot juicy gossip, it is full of hot deliciousness. This tasty drink has become a household favorite of ours over here during this quarantine – we love to enjoy one (or two) while winding down for the evening. And the ingredients found in Quarantea you most likely already have in your home (yay to avoiding the grocery store!). So if you’re looking for a cocktail to sip and relax – look no further.
What You Need to Make Quarantea
Before we jump into the recipe, I wanted to share a little more information on the incredible honey I use for this recipe, Karma Honey. Karma honey is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to save the bees! And I’m ALL about that mission. The Karma Honey Project was created in 2018 to increase the Puerto Rican honey bee population, spread awareness of the species, and create local jobs through ecotourism and beekeeping. Creation of new hives to repopulate the affected honey bee population.

How to Make Quarantea
This is one of the easiest cocktail recipes you’ll have in your arsenal of ‘mixologist extraordinaire’. And it’s foolproof! Minimal ingredients, and easy steps to follow. The first thing you’re going to do is turn your kettle on, and begin to boil the water. Fun fact: I no longer own a kettle. Before we moved to Puerto Rico, I had given it away since I wanted to make room for other appliances to pack (I didn’t use it a lot). So, don’t fret if you don’t have a kettle. Just boil some water in a pot – I know it’s not as “fancy” but hey, it gets the job done.
While your water boils, coat the inside of your glass and/or mugs with honey. You don’t necessarily have to do this, you could just add your honey to the mug, but it looks pretty.
Ok, this photo doesn’t do it justice. As I fumbled to get my camera ready, the honey lost its patience and began its descent down the sides. But I promise – it’s very pretty when you’re not trying to do a photo shoot. Now it’s time to add the spiced rum, lemon juice, and a pinch of lemon zest. I prefer to add all these before the hot water, allowing the alcohol, lemon and honey to marinate together.
And now, for the final step: add your hot water and stir until all ingredients are mixed – looking like liquid gold! I hope you love this cocktail as much as we do. And keep in mind, it’s a very flexible recipe. You can add more water, less rum, or more lemon zest, etc. It’s completely up to your taste preference – I promise it’ll still be delicious.

- 1/2 lemon, fresh squeezed, using the peel for zest
- 1.5 ounces of spiced rum
- 1 – 1 1/2 cups of hot water
- 1 tsp of honey*
- Turn your kettle on, and begin to boil water
- Coat the inside of your glass and/or mugs with honey
- Add 1.5 ounces of spiced rum to glass
- Add in lemon juice and a pinch of lemon zest
- Pour in hot water; stir until drink looks like liquid gold
*You can adjust your honey to the sweetness of your liking!
