Breaking down my favorite podcasts of 2018.
#5. TED Radio Hour: “A journey through fascinating ideas, astonishing inventions, and new ways to think and create. Based on riveting TEDTalks from the world’s most remarkable minds.” Podcast links here.
Informative and thought provoking podcast that features topics from unleashing hidden potential, to the consequences of racism. There’s one episode titled, Dying Well, that changed my entire perspective on death and the candid way we can have a conversations about it. Additionally, Emily Levine is divine in it.
#4. Call Her Daddy: “Follow along vlogger Alexandra Cooper and best friend Sofia Franklyn as the duo dives into the explicit details of their life in NYC. n their 20s, the two exploit the f*ck out of their lives, making you feel a hell of a lot better about yours. Relationships, sex, the NY social scene, embarrassing moments, and more are all addressed here. Podcast website here.
Oh man, where do I begin with this podcast? Let’s start with the mass amount of hate these girls received when Barstool released the first video clip of the girls’ podcast via Instagram. Hell hath no fury like a man hearing a woman talk like a man. I wish I was kidding. But it’s funny/interesting to note that ‘locker room talk’ is very much acceptable for men, but GOD FOBBID a woman talks that way. Anyways, I plan on doing a full post on this podcast, and the double standards held within our society – but until then! Give these girls a listen, but maybe not at the office.
#3. Sorry Mom: “Get weird with us as we talk, rant, curse and laugh every Thursday at noon!” Video Podcasts here.
As some of you know, I use to work for a company called theCHIVE. And I had the privilege of working with some of social media’s hottest ladies. However, as some of you can imagine, not all the models/actresses were fun to work with (I’ll leave it at that). But, when I saw Nikki or Sydney on the roster for a shoot/event, I knew it was going to be a great day. It’s incredibly refreshing to see gorgeous faces have warm personalities, a wicked sense of humor and just an overall good vibe. Yes they’re pretty faces, but they’re not just pretty faces. Go give them a listen.
#2. Philosophize This: “For anyone interested in an educational podcast about philosophy where you don’t need to be a graduate-level philosopher to understand it. In chronological order, the thinkers and ideas that forged the world we live in are broken down and explained.” Podcast and Books available here (also on Spotify).
I was going through a pretty nasty breakup at the time I discovered this podcast, and in all honesty, it got me through some difficult days. Bizarre podcast choice to get over a breakup, but trust me, it took my mind off things for hours at a time. I wanted a podcast that would intrigue me, and have me leave feeling like I actually learned something – and not just be a space filler. I absolutely love this podcast, and it’s incredibly interesting to see where a lot of societal ideals come from. Episode #068 on Moodiness and Episode #042 on Optimism our my top picks.
#1. Case File True Crime: “Fact is scarier than fiction.”
This is a true crime podcast, that dives into murderous crimes that have occurred around the globe. What’s better than a a series on murders? A series on murders read by a man with an Australia accent. Oh boy, his voice alone will have you hooked. I’ve always been interested in murder, and what drives people to commit such heinous crimes. I’ve attempted to get into other crime podcasts, but they always have too many ‘reenactments’ – I’m not a fan of those, bleh. This podcast has just facts; and highly recommend it. Warning: If you get scared easily, don’t listen to this while home alone. I know it’s ‘just a podcast’, but your imagination is sometimes scarier than what a Hollywood film puts before your eyes.
