What I’ve Learned Since Moving to Puerto Rico

3. Appreciate the small things

Remember human interaction? Making small talk with strangers at the grocery store; poking around stores and trying on clothes; hugging people you haven’t seen in forever. Although I know social distancing and mask wearing is a necessity, it doesn’t make me miss these things any less. Now, anytime we go out, I find myself truly enjoying every minute – regardless of what we’re doing.

2. The ocean changes you

Yes, I may still be frightened by the ocean (hey, not knowing what’s beneath you is a real fear! It’s called, Thalassophobia), but just being by the ocean and taking in its presence can turn any day around. B is a water baby, and swims nearly everyday in the ocean. I on the other hand, love walking along the beach. Regardless of how we each enjoy it, every time we leave, our outlook for the day is bright and positive… Exactly what we need during this pandemic.

1. Roll with the punches

It hasn’t been smooth sailing since moving here. On the contrary, as I mentioned at the beginning, it’s been a rollercoaster ride since arriving! And for someone with OCD, not being able to plan every detail of our lives, has been challenging but also liberating. I literally have NO choice but to learn to go with the flow… it’s still a work in progress, but I learning 🙂
