On our third day in Maui, we had planned to drive around the island. Not just any drive though, Hana Highway. For those not familiar with this highway, it boasts incredible scenic views, very windy roads, and almost everywhere you stop your bound to find a waterfall or breathtaking beach. What you won’t find in abundance however, is ton of restaurants to stop at. With that being said, for someone that turns into the devil himself while hungry, we were in dire need of substance for my hangry self. As luck would have it, or maybe an answer to the prayers of those accompanying me in the jeep, we stumbled upon AE’s Thai Kitchen.
Location: 5123 Hana Hwy, Haiku, HI
Price: $
Atmosphere: It’s a food truck essentially in around-about parking lot – so the atmosphere is what you make of it! But considering your surroundings are the lush landscapes of Hawaii, the atmosphere is pretty damn good. There isn’t ample seating, unless you want to wander over to Surfing Burro’s… but do so with caution. Interestingly enough, I read some reviews that the food trucks within this lot, have some strong feelings towards each other… and not the good kind. Multiple reviews read, one staff member from a food truck got mad at the competitors customers for sitting in their ‘area’; another described petty arguments about where to toss one’s trash. Anywho, we didn’t experience this, but I thought I’d share.
Service at AE’s Thai Kitchen in Maui
The staff was friendly and sweet, and very helpful with a few questions we had regarding the remainder of our trip. The service was a tad slow, but quicker than Surfing Burro – honestly, what I’ve learned from these food trucks is to embrace island time.
Food at AE’s Thai Kitchen in Maui
Fantastic! Drunken Noodles is one of my favorite Thai Dishes, and AE’s Thai Kitchen did not disappoint.
Overall: I would recommend anyone traveling on Hana Highway to make a pit-stop at AE’s. They’re reasonably priced, and have have a pretty decent sized menu, considering they’re a food truck.
