The Food at Sarabeth’s

Ok, so back to the mimosas! The Five Flowers mimosa was made with St. Germaine, sparkling wine, and their four flowers juice. The Four Flowers mimosa was made the same, sans the St. Germaine. Both were delicious, and I recommend trying both. But, if I had to choose a favorite, go for the Four Flowers. The breakfast menu at Sarabeth’s contains a mix of breakfast classics such as, Omelettes, Benedicts and Pancakes, but even these classics had their own Sarabeth’s flare. Like Crab Cake Benedict, Farmer’s Omelette (leeks, ham, potato, gruyere) and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. There were also choices like, Goldie Lox (scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and cream cheese), Toasted Coconut Waffles (pineapple, mango, maple rum butter) and Short Rib Hash (baked eggs, poblanos, tomatillo). Needless to say, I figured whatever I ordered, I wouldn’t be disappointed. But, being the basic b that I am, even with all these amazing choices… Our waiter mentioned something that wasn’t on the menu, and I was craving just that.

Avocado and toast. I KNOW. I can hear your judgement!

Knowing I needed to make up for my basic choice, I also ordered the Chicken & Apple Sausage… not as basic… come on! Cut me a little slack. And besides, I knew after my boyfriend ordered the Short Rib Hash, he’d be sharing his meal. Even if he didn’t know it yet. Haha… I kid! He already knows damn well that I’m the girlfriend that says she “doesn’t want fries” but will proceed to eat his.

My very not-basic Avocado and Toast with fresh mozzarella!

There’s two kinds of ways to serve avocado while enjoying it with toast, blended or sliced. Personally, I think if you’re putting additional goodies like eggs, cheese, meats, etc. on top, it’s best to blend the avocado – equally distributing it, allowing each bite to contain the green goodness. This Avocado and Toast from Sarabeth’s had a fried egg, greens and fresh mozzarella; the toast wasn’t soggy and the egg was cooked perfectly. After devouring a few bites, I dove into the chicken and apple sausages, which were smothered in apple sauce. I’m not sure if this is a Canadian thing or not, but I love pouring maple syrup on my sausages and bacon – the savory sweetness is to die for. So, naturally, I loved these sausages.

Short Rib Hash

I wish I captured more detail in this dish, but I as fidgeted with my camera, I could feel my boyfriend’s eyes watching me. It’s never in an impatient way though, it’s always in an endearing take-your-time way, which in all honesty makes me work faster. Hey, wait a second… I see what’s going on here! Anyways. I knew he was ready to dive into the hash, and by he, I mean we were ready to dive in. And so we did. The baked eggs with the runny yolk, mixed in with the hash, was absolutely wonderful.

Choice of Side: Croissant

This perfect croissant was the side for our Short Rib Hash. The options include: Choice of Muffin (English, Berry Corn, Bran, Banana, Pumpkin), Croissant, Scone or Toast & Preserves. We left no crumbs behind.

Overall

I fell in love with Sarabeth’s. From the atmosphere, the food, the people watching, and the service, it just might be the perfect breakfast spot in NYC. I know I’ll be stopping there every time I’m visiting the city. And if you’re ever in NYC, as my parents would say, “YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS RESTAURANT.”
